The Royal Oak in Fore Street, Heavitree was partly re-built after war damage and is one of the few buildings near the City centre to retain it's thatched roof. ![]() The original pub was further up Fore Street and moved to the present site in the 1828. I have seen no information regarding the original building, but would imagine it was amongst the very tight streets of Heavitree around before 1828. The inn is mentioned in a "for sale" notice in the Exeter Flying post 22nd December 1831. A so called "Middle Row" was removed from Fore Street in order to widen the road. More information on the Pub Crawl page, select Heavitree. The pub exists today. Stuart Callon Copyright ©2002 |
