The North Devon Inn was around in 1681 and is shown on the O.S Map and is also listed in
White's 1850 directory. Elizabeth Taylor was resident.
It was the subject of a "to let" notice EFP 11th May 1837. Fire bombed during WW2, but was listed in Kelly's directory as late as 1970. It was a cider drinkers pub, where they used to sell "rough and smooth" to students...half of sweet with half of dry cider...(my thanks to Bill Tupman). And also according to Chris Dare was decorated externally with green tiles similar to those of the Victoria Inn today. Stuart Callon Copyright ©2002-2006 |
